Classic Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow 3DS Break eShop Records

Classic 2D Pokemon games Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow were officially released for 3DS via the eShop on February 27, 2016 - the Pokemon series’ 20th anniversary - and they definitely made a big hit. Nintendo announced yesterday that, when sales from all of 3 Pokémon games were combined, they set a very new first-week eShop sales record. And this record had been held formerly by Super Smash Bros.

"With classic graphics and timeless gameplay, these versions of the original Pokemon adventure are proving to be a popular way for fans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series," Nintendo stated in a statement to yesterday.

Though Nintendo did not public any particular numbers, and, as mentioned earlier, the Pokemon 3DS game sales combined all the three, it's still a very impressive feat and speaks to the enduring appeal of Pokemon series.

The next Pokemon game is this month's Wii U fighting game Pokken Tournament. And looking further out, new mainline entries Pokemon Sun/Moon will be launched this holiday for 3DS.

Nintendo also announced that both versions of Fire Emblem Fates sold almost 400,000 copies combined that outpace the previous series' record-holder, Fire Emblem: Awakening. But, that number should continue to increase with Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation, which also was released on March 10.
